Since entering the built environment in 2005, Jaco Maritz has built a career shaped by both architectural design and technical experience. After spending his early years in architecture, he moved into the mechanical engineering field, contributing to large-scale commercial projects for seven years before returning to architecture in 2016.

Founded by Jaco Maritz in 2021, Second City Architects was established on the belief that architecture should feel personal, practical, and deeply considered. With over two decades of combined experience across architecture, engineering, and commercial construction, Jaco approaches every project with more than just an eye for design. His background brings a practical understanding of how buildings are constructed, how they function over time, and how thoughtful design can improve the way people live and experience a space. This balanced approach gives clients confidence that their project is being guided with creativity, technical knowledge, and genuine care from start to finish.

Whether we are designing a new home, guiding a renovation, or assisting with a development along the Garden Route, our focus remains the same: creating spaces that are well considered, enduring, and tailored to the people who will live, work, and grow within them.
